Mr. Blau earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1998, majoring in both Mathematics and Engineering & Applied Science. Over the next six years, he worked as a cryptomathematician in the civil service, developed and managed software for data routing, data caching, and video streaming systems, and co-founded a web design company.

Mr. Blau began his legal studies in 2004 at the Chicago-Kent College of Law. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property from 2005 to 2006, and President of the Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Law Society from 2006 to 2007. Mr. Blau earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2007, graduating with a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. Following admission to the Massachusetts Bar, Mr. Blau was associated with the intellectual property law firm of Sunstein, Kann, Murphy & Timbers, LLP.

In 2017, Mr. Blau became associated with Daly, Crowley, Mofford & Durkee, LLP, where he provides a wide range of legal services related to the acquisition, maintenance, and enforcement of U.S. and foreign intellectual property. He has prepared and prosecuted patents and post-grant proceedings in technology areas including microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), data storage, audio and video processing, cable television, encryption and public key infrastructure (PKI), Internet technologies including cloud computing and e-commerce, high performance computing (HPC) and parallel systems, databases, and video games.

Mr. Blau is the current content editor for the best selling self-help book, "Patent It Yourself." Each year between 2013 and 2017, Mr. Blau was recognized in the Massachusetts Rising Stars list published by Super Lawyers, a service of Thomson Reuters. This peer-selected list is limited to 2.5% of the outstanding emerging lawyers in the state who are age 40 and under, or have been practicing 10 years or less.

Mr. Blau is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the Boston Bar Association, Boston Patent Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (Computer and Communication Societies).
